The Samsung Galaxy S25 phones are all now available to buy, except for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which was only briefly teased. Now a new leak suggests that the Edge model could differ in one way from the rest of the S25 series.
According to the information obtained by SamobelThe Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will come with a ceramic back, moving from the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the backs of other phones in the series.
This might go some way to explaining why the Galaxy S25 Edge was available to look at, but not touch, during the Galaxy S25 launch event – that would have given away the surprise. The side frame appears to be sticking to aluminum, like the other phones.
The main reason for choosing ceramic as a backing material is durability, and this should give the Galaxy S25 Edge better protection against drops and bumps. Given its thinness and lightness, additional protection may be needed.

According to a report from Sammobile, the back material on the Galaxy S25 Edge could be ceramic glass or all-ceramic—perhaps something similar to what Apple has been using on the front of its iPhones in recent years.
There will be another way the Galaxy S25 Edge could differentiate itself from other phones in the series, besides its bulk. The phone appears to be just 5.84mm from front to back (compared to 7.2mm on the standard Galaxy S25).
We’re still waiting to get the full spec sheet for the Galaxy S25 Edge, and we don’t know when it will launch yet. Given that Mobile World Congress (MWC) is happening next month – the biggest mobile tech show of the year – we might get more information then.
The phone could restart the trend for thin smartphones: We expect Apple is set to launch the iPhone 17 Air later in the year alongside the other iPhone 17 models, though that may not be the final name for the device.
