Is your Google Pixel 9 display flaky or is it haptic? You're not alone, and luckily there's a solution.

  • Google Pixel phones are experiencing some bugs.
  • It appears to be caused by the recent security patch.
  • There is no official solution, but some possible solutions

It's not a great time for Google right now. Chromecasts is experiencing glitches, Google Maps appears to be deleting timelines, and now Google Pixel phone users are reporting display, audio, and haptics issues after the latest security patch was rolled out.

Users took to Google Pixel Subreddit To complain random brightness fluctuations, sound loss when using third-party EQ apps like Poweramp EQ, feeling like Haptics are denser after the update. (Spotted by 9to5Google).

Fortunately, there are some proposed fixes, although we're still waiting for an official patch from Google itself.

When it comes to screen brightness in some apps, some users have found setting their phone's refresh rate to 60Hz using features like Battery Saver did the trick (although it's not a perfect solution).

On the haptics side of things Google said (via Reddit) that it is “looking into reports from some Pixel users about changes to haptic intensity” and also offers advice on how to change the haptic intensity on a Pixel device by going to Settings > Sound & Vibration, then Vibration & Vibration.

As for the sound, you may have to do without third-party equalizers for now.

We're not experiencing the issues ourselves, so we can't test these tactics, but affected users say the solutions work — so it's something to try while you wait for a more permanent fix if the glitches are bothering you.

For those of you who may have somehow delayed installing the latest security update due to these issues, you may want to reconsider. Glitches can be frustrating, but not everyone who updates is affected, and not installing essential security patches can put your device at risk—which can lead to problems far bigger than screen brightness.
