Android 16 BETA users are reporting major battery drain issues – but I’m not too worried about it

  • Android 16 Beta 2.1 is said to be causing major battery drain for some users
  • Comments posted on Reddit complain about having to charge up to twice a day.
  • Android 16 is expected to be released sometime between April and June.

Android 16 is scheduled to be released sometime between April and June of this year, and as we approach that window, Google continues to roll out beta versions of its latest mobile operating system.

However, these beta builds are still pre-built builds designed to experiment and test new features, and so they can have unfortunate side effects—in fact, the Android 16 beta seems to be hitting users' phone batteries harder than expected.

like Android Authority Reports, users with Android 16 Beta 2.1 installed have reported severe impact on battery life as a result of the update.

A Reddit thread started by official U/Androidbetaprogram account The R/Android_Beta Subreddit has multiple reports of this battery issue.

user U/Jordanl171 “The battery life on the 2.1 is much worse than it was on the 2.0 (on the) Pixel 9 Pro,” he said.

Others complained of unspecified shipping issues, while others User is now frantic They said they were “forced to charge twice a day.”

Naturally, this isn't the kind of change you want to see with a newer version of any operating system, but I'm not particularly worried about this battery bug.

BETA versions of operating systems are bound to have some annoying or even experience issues every now and then—it's part of the process, and it's much better for users and developers that these issues surface before the full release.

As long as Google continues to raise community awareness across platforms like Reddit and other social media, I'm pretty sure this issue will be fixed before launch, and perhaps even in a later beta build.

Although I haven't been affected by this battery drain issue myself – I don't have a file Google Pixel phone and right now you need access to Android 16 Betas – I don't think this will remain a red light for anyone looking to update to Android 16 when it releases.

However, it may be worth skipping this particular build. Phone batteries are consumable components, with a maximum lifespan that degrades over time, so disturbing them often can have an impact on the longevity of your device.

Anyway, I’m still excited for Android 16 to make it the best Android phone later this year. Let us know what you want to see from the new Android update in the comments below.
