IP address

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a logical numerical address assigned to each computer, printer, switch, router, or other device that is part of a TCP/IP network. The IP address is the fundamental component on which the network architecture is built; there is no Internet without an IP address. It is an address used to uniquely identify each node in the network, and connects the global Internet to each other.[١]

IP address work

When data, such as an email or a web page, is sent or received, the message is broken down into small pieces called packets. Each packet contains the sender's Internet address and the recipient's address. Any packet is first sent to a computer, which reads a small portion of the Internet, and the destination address. It forwards the packet to a neighboring gateway, which in turn reads the destination address, and so on across the Internet until one gateway recognizes which packet belongs to which. computer Within its direct domain, this gateway forwards the packet directly to the computer whose address is specified.[٢]
