The virtues of reciting the Mu’awwidhat in Morning and evening:
Healing from diseases
There are authentic hadiths that indicate the virtue of reciting the Mu’awwidhat in healing from illnesses and diseases. When the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, complained of some illness, he would recite them over himself. Imam al-Bukhari included in his Sahih on the authority of Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, may God be pleased with her: (Whenever the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was ill, he would recite the Mu’awwidhat over himself and blow. When his pain became severe, I would recite over him and wipe his hand with it, hoping for its blessing.).[١][٢]
It also has the advantage of healing from all evil by taking refuge in it. It was reported on the authority of Abu Saeed Al-Khudri - may God be pleased with him - that: (The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to seek refuge from the jinn and the evil eye of man until the two Mu’awwidhat were revealed. When they were revealed, he took them and left everything else.).[٣][٢]
Immunization before bed
It was reported that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to seek protection by reciting the Mu’awwidhat before sleeping. He, peace be upon him, would bring his hands together and recite into them Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat An-Nas, and Surat Al-Falaq, blow into them some of his saliva, then wipe them over whatever he could of his body.[٢]
Imam Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Aisha, the Mother of the Believers - may God be pleased with her - that: (That when the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, went to bed every night, he would bring his hands together, then blow into them, and recite into them: “Say: He is God, the One,” “Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak,” and “Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,” then he would wipe with them whatever he could of his body, starting with his head, face, and the front of his body, and he would do that three times.).[٤][٢]
The Prophet ordered to recite it after prayers.
It was narrated on the authority of Uqbah bin Amir - may God be pleased with him - that he said: (The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, commanded me to recite the Mu’awwidhat after every prayer.)،[٥] It is recommended for a Muslim to recite the Mu’awwidhat after finishing each prayer, in response to the command of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.[٢]
Preventing evil before it happens
It was narrated on the authority of Uqbah bin Amir - may God be pleased with him - that he said: (While I was walking with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, between Al-Juhfah and Al-Abwa, a strong wind and intense darkness covered us. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, began to seek refuge with “I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak” and “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,” and he said, “O Uqbah, seek refuge with them, for no one seeking refuge has sought refuge with anything like them.” He said, “And I heard him leading us in prayer with them.”)،[٦] God Almighty is the only one who is able to ward off evil from the servant if he seeks refuge and protection in Him.[٧]
Definition of the Mu'awwidhat
Al-Mu'awwidhat is a term given to the three surahs that conclude the Holy Qur’an, which are: Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and Al-Nas. There are several hadiths that indicate the virtue of reciting them.[٨]
On the authority of Abdullah bin Khabib - may God be pleased with him - on the authority of the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - he said: (We went out on a rainy and very dark night, looking for the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. الله عليه وسلم So he led us in prayer, so we caught up with him, and he said: Did you pray? I did not say anything. He said: Say. I did not say anything. Then he said: Say. I did not say anything. Then he said: Say. I said: O Messenger of Allah, what should I say? He said: Say: He is Allah, the One, and the two Mu’awwidhat in the evening and in the morning three times, and they will suffice you against everything..[٩]
Then A Muslim recites the Mu’awwidhat three times in the morning and evening to protect himself. وتقيه من كلّ شرٍّ وضررٍ أيًا كان.[١٠][١١]
