Quantitative Methods in Project Management
Quantitative Methods in Project Management
Quantitative methods are defined as techniques Search Which is used in analyzing quantitative data that enables decision-makers to understand and organize the numbers that explain an administrative or economic phenomenon, and based on them they make the most correct administrative decisions.[١]
There are four main types of quantitative methods, each of which is used in a specific case.[٢] Here is a brief overview of each:
Investigative research method
It is a survey tool used by large and small establishments to explain the characteristics of groups on a large scale, such as understanding the views of a large segment of customers regarding a product or service. The surveys used in this type of quantitative methods are of two types:[٢]
- CT scan
Which is conducted on the target customer group for a product or A specific service, usually used in the fields of Commercial, such as retail stores, etc.
- Longitudinal scan
Which is conducted at different time intervals, and is usually used in scientific fields such as medicine and applied sciences.
Descriptive research method
It is the tool that the researcher uses to describe the current situation of a specific variable. This variable may be people, events, phenomena, or settings. Usually, the researcher does not begin the descriptive method by formulating a hypothesis, but he may resort to formulating it after collecting information about the specific variable, and then proving the validity of this hypothesis.[٢]
Examples of the research method include describing global warming for scientists, describing school physical activities, and describing elementary school teachers using mathematics in a research-based way. professional Easy to deliver to students.[٢]
Experimental research method
It is the method that relies on the scientific method to establish the relationship between cause and effect between the variables under study, and the experimental method may be based on one or more theories.[٢]
In this method, there are two basic variables: the first is the independent variable or experimental variable that is applied to the experimental group, and the second is the dependent variable that is measured in the same way for all randomly selected groups to see its effect on each of them.[٢]
relational research method
It is the tool by which the researcher finds a relationship between two close entities to study how the behavior of one affects the other, so this type depends on two or more separate groups.[٢]
Characteristics of quantitative methods
For a research method to be called a quantitative method, it must have the following characteristics:[٣]
- The variables under study must be measurable for the population, such as age, economic status, education level, and number of children.
- to use Search Tools A standardized, unified approach that is known in advance how it will influence the direction of the data collection process, ensuring its accuracy and reliability.
- It is used in the analysis of quantitative data on the normal distribution curve of the population more than it is used on the non-normal curve.
- To classify and present data in forms, tables, or graphs that collect large amounts of data in one table, one graph, or one illustration, to facilitate showing relationships or differences between variables.
- The method must be repeatable, so that the researcher can repeat its use in many studies, which enhances the validity of the results, far from error or misleading.
- The method should be able to predict outcomes, using Computer Which is based on formulas, equations and mathematical analysis.
- The tools used in the research method must be consistent with the standard criteria of the reference tools.
